In brief: Probe of officer who shot suspect continues
The Idaho State Police finished its investigation Friday of the officer-involved shooting in Hayden earlier this month where a suspect was shot and instigated a car chase through two counties.
Now the report is with the Kootenai County prosecutor’s office, which will determine if charges are warranted. The report and deputy’s name will remain confidential until the prosecutor’s office makes a decision, said State Police Capt. Clark Rollins.
Prosecutor Bill Douglas said Friday he had not yet reviewed the report.
The Coeur d’Alene Police Department assisted with the investigation into what happened March 14 when a Kootenai County sheriff’s deputy shot Victor Leon Jr. in the chest.
Leon allegedly tried to ram a police cruiser and then a deputy with his full-size Dodge pickup.
He then led officers on a chase from Hayden to Kellogg. His injuries were described as minor.
Leon was charged with felony eluding an officer and is in jail with a $500,000 bond.

Show explores loss of cheap energy
“The End of Oil,” a multimedia presentation on the loss of cheap energy, is scheduled for Tuesday night in Sandpoint at the Bonner County Library, on the corner of Cedar and Division. The group presenting the show says it will be “surprisingly hilarious” and will include music, laughter and skits.
“It is such a serious matter that we have felt the need to leaven it with laughter,” said Ken Fischman, a geneticist and member of the Ancient Pathway Players group.
The free presentation will explore how climate change and the loss of cheap energy will reshape society.
Showtime is 7 p.m.

54-year-old in hospital following collision
A 54-year-old man was taken to Kootenai Medical Center by helicopter after a collision on Highway 41 shortly after 6 p.m.
Morgan L. Miller, of Blanchard, was not wearing a seatbelt and was driving southbound on State Highway 41 when he turned left in front of a car driven by 19-year-old Jessica Jenkins, of Athol.
Idaho State Police said Miller sustained head and neck injuries.
Miller was driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee, and Jenkins was in a 1992 Mercury Sable along with a passenger, both of whom were wearing seatbelts, police said.
Jenkins and her passenger had minor injuries. Officers said speeding was not a factor in the crash.
