Danny Cox led off the eighth inning with a triple and scored the game-winning run on a single from Michael Burgher, as the Washington (14-9, 3-0) baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Washington State with a 6-5 win Sunday in Pac-10 play at Pullman.

In the ninth, the Cougars (13-10, 0-3) scored an unearned run on a two-out RBI single from Jim Murphy, but Jeff Miller flew out to end the game.

•Darin Holcomb and Brandon Harmon highlighted play as Gonzaga split a pair of non-conference games with visiting Utah Valley State (7-15).

Gonzaga’s Holcomb went 5 for 10 on the day including three home runs, six RBIs and four runs scored.

After the Bulldogs (16-13) dropped the first game 9-8, Harmon posted a complete-game shutout, allowing five hits and striking out eight.

•Ryne Webb went 5 for 10 with three RBIs and Ryan Snell earned his fourth win of the season, as Whitworth split a Northwest Conference doubleheader with Willamette in Spokane.

The Pirates (7-13, 5-6) opened with a 9-3 win, but fell to the Bearcats in the second game 7-4.

•Big Bend CC (8-8) defeated Phoenix CC 3-2 at Phoenix, and fell 5-3 to the Seattle Mariners rookie squad at Peoria, Ariz., in split-squad play.

Softball

Chapman University cranked out five runs in the third inning on its way to a 8-2 non-conference victory over No. 19 Whitworth (12-2) in Orange, Calif.

Gonzaga earned four first place finishes Saturday during the Daffodil Cup hosted by Puget Sound in Vancouver, Wash.
