Trevor Nearing knocked in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning Wednesday and Central Valley (3-3) edged Mead 6-5 in Greater Spokane League play at Mead. Rusty Shelhorn struck out 11, allowing five runs in seven innings for CV. Matt Walsh was stuck with the loss for Mead (3-1). … Scotty Livengood aided his cause by going 4 for 4 with two RBIs and threw a complete-game shutout as Rogers defeated Shadle Park 7-0 at Shadle. Eric Hendricks went 2 for 2 with a double for Shadle (2-4) and John Warman scored twice for Rogers (2-4). … Down a run in the seventh, Boone Plager doubled for North Central to tie the game 2-2. He went on to score the winning run in the bottom of the inning to give NC a 3-2 win over Gonzaga Prep. Ryan Richardson earned the win with nine strikeouts.

“In the Inland Empire League, Andy Seaman improved to 4-0, Alex Reyes collected four hits and Cody Spencer’s two-out, opposite-field single scored the winning run as Coeur d’Alene improved to 9-0 overall with a 7-6 victory over Lake City (5-2, 1-1). … Tyler Kanigge threw five shutout innings with four strikeouts to give Lewiston a 5-0 win over Post Falls (4-5, 1-3) to open an Inland Empire League doubleheader. Tim Kerr went 3 for 3 with an RBI for Lewiston (5-1, 3-0) and Brett Harris added three RBIs, including a two-run single in the third. In the second game, singles by Adam Carson, Tom Kerr and Taylor Forge loaded the bases in the eighth for Lewiston with one out. Levi Blinn stepped in and lined a pitch to center field. Carson tagged up and scored to give Lewiston a 4-3 victory and a sweep of Post Falls.

Boys soccer

Mike Ramos scored off a deflection in the 63rd minute to give University a 1-0 GSL victory over host East Valley (3-4, 3-2). Ryan Dixon made a big save on a point-blank attempt earlier in the game to preserve the shutout for his Titans (5-3, 4-1). … Also in the GSL, a late goal by Jake Krueger in the 79th minute gave Shadle Park a 6-6 tie with host Mt. Spokane and forced overtime. Two scoreless overtimes led to a 4-3 shootout during which Sean Saldua scored to seal a 7-6 win for Shadle (3-4, 2-2). Nick Reilly scored twice for Mt. Spokane (0-6, 0-3). … For visiting Lewis and Clark, Evan Gaul stopped three shots and Marc Mauersberger scored twice in a 5-0 win over Gonzaga Prep (2-3, 1-2). Casey Ames had a goal and two assists for the Tigers (5-2, 3-1). … Ian Anderson and Trevor Crain found the back of the net for Ferris to lead the Saxons (4-2, 2-1) to a 2-1 win over Central Valley. Sam Busby scored the lone goal for the Bears (3-4, 1-3).

Softball

Danielle Lynn broke open a one-run game for Shadle Park with a two-run double in the fifth inning as visiting Shadle handed North Central its first loss of the season in a 10-0 victory in the GSL. For NC (5-1, 5-1), Maggie Capwell ended Sam Skillingstad’s no-hitter in the fifth with a single. Skillingstad had 13 strikeouts and six walks for Shadle (6-0, 6-0). … An 11-run third inning boosted Central Valley to an 18-1 win over visiting Lewis and Clark (0-7, 0-6) in five innings. For CV (5-2, 4-2), Emily Snow had two triples, four RBIs and scored twice. Mickenzie Alden added three hits and three RBIs for the Bears. Lauren Mandler (2-2) picked up the win, allowing one earned run.

“In the Great Northern League, Michelle Ching had four of Colville’s 21 hits and allowed one run in five innings as the Indians beat Deer Park 14-1 in the first game of a doubleheader at Colville. In the second game, Kemmica Ebel and Jordan Emmil knocked doubles and had two hits apiece to lead Colville to a 10-0 win over Deer Park (3-3, 0-2) in five innings. Makayla Carr picked up the win for Colville (2-0, 2-0).

Boys golf

Sophomore Hank Frame of University shot a 1-under-par 69 to lead the field in a GSL event at Liberty Lake Golf Course. Dustin Poe (Ferris) was a stroke behind with 70 and Bobby Moore (Mt. Spokane) shot a 71 to round out the top three. Mead shot 377 for a one-shot win over U-Hi. Third-place Ferris shot 383, five shots better than Lewis and Clark.

Girls golf

Freshman Chessey Thomas (Lewis and Clark) led the GSL event with a 3-over 77 at Liberty Lake GC – three strokes ahead of Lauren Howell (Mead). LC came out on top with 435 strokes and Mt. Spokane finished second with 464.
