Good Deeds: KEC distributes Round Up grants

The Spokesman-Review

Kootenai Electric Cooperative recently distributed Operation Round Up grants for first quarter. The grants are made possible by KEC members who contribute to the fund by checking the box on their monthly utility bill. The option “rounds up” the total amount due to the nearest dollar amount and contributes the difference to the fund.

Disbursements and local recipients are listed.

“$2,500 went to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office for purchase of ID-A-KID child identification work station.

“$1,500 went to the Carrousel Players of the Lake City Playhouse for purchase of a pro follow spotlight; and two KEC members, to help with medical costs.

“$1,260 was received by the Bayview Community Center for an energy efficient freezer.

“$1,000 was awarded to Parents Reaching Out to Parents for assistance to families with children with disabilities; and Borah Elementary School for the purchase of math educational software and site licenses.

“$900 was disbursed to Trinity Group Homes to help buy three new beds.

“$750 was given to the Post Falls Senior Center for walk-in freezer repairs.

“$500 each was given to Business Professionals of America at Lake City High School and the Fulcrum Institute for toys and home essentials for victims of child abuse.

“$213 was awarded to Glory Be School for educational software.

The grant applications for next quarter are due at the KEC office by May 7 and are available on the Internet at www.kec.com under the news/community menu option, or at the office at 2451 W. Dakota Ave., Hayden. Applications can also be mailed to KEC at P.O. Box 278, Hayden, ID 83835. For questions, call KEC at 765-1200.
