Cycling events set for weekend

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

North Idaho BMX will sponsor several events this weekend at the Cherry Hill BMX track in Coeur d’Alene.

A free BMX Kids Safety Clinic will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at the track, which can be found by making a right turn just past the fire station at 1500 N. 15th St. The clinic will feature a bike safety check, an obstacle course to learn bike control concepts, and certificates of completion. Cherry Hill BMX T-shirts and free helmets for those in need will be available, and participants will have a chance to race for free.

On Sunday, a Race for Life cancer fundraiser will begin with registration from 9 to 10 a.m. at the track. Membership in the American Bicycle Association is not required to participate. The minimum $20 fee is a contribution to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help find a cure for blood-related cancers.

The Race for Life program began in 1981 to help 12-year-old Michigan racer and leukemia patient Todd Kingsbury.
