Handle on Business:Salon, engineers to share building

Nils Rosdahl Correspondent

Welch Comer & Associates Engineering and J. Miller Salon will be the first occupants as spaces for businesses open in June and July in a two-building complex in the 300 block of East Kathleen Avenue, Coeur d’Alene.

Welch Comer will combine two spaces in the west end of the west building for 6,420 square feet and move from its current location on Lincoln Way. A space of 2,220 square feet remains available in that building. J. Miller will move into a 4,320-square-foot space in the east end of the east building, leaving spaces of 1,450 and 2,870 available.

J. Miller will leave the nearby building to the west that the neighboring A Child’s Imagination day-care center will expand into.

Owners of the new complex are attorney Robert Covington, Jennifer and Darren Miller (who also have the hair salon and Pita Pits in Post Falls and Rathdrum) and Phil Boyd of Welch Comer. Both J. Miller Salon and Welch Comer have about 30 employees.

Beverage drive-throughs on Fourth

Drive-through lanes for both coffee and convenience store products will be featured in a 2,584-square-foot structure being built at 2020 Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene. The Cup of Love coffee stand and the Fourth Street Beverage Shack will be just north of the Thai Bamboo Restaurant also under construction at Fourth and Annie Avenue. A small house will remain between the two new buildings.

Both businesses will be owned by Greg and Pam Love. Originally from Missoula, he came to North Idaho in 1976 and she is a Coeur d’Alene native. Their daughter, Natasha, will run the Cup of Love with five employees. The Beverage Shack will have three employees and will offer beer, wine, juices and convenience store items such as milk, eggs, cheese and bread.

Planning a July opening, hours will be 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.

Accessories by Gosh expands with move

More space and a more obvious location are the advantages for Accessories by Gosh as it moves to the northwest entry to the Plaza Shoppes on Sherman Avenue, Coeur d’Alene.

The wooden ship counter of the former jewelry store in the space is gone to allow more display space for the “accessories,” which feature items of the Brighton brand and “things that travel well,” according to Carol Bennett, who owns the store with her husband Don. He also has the Watches by Gosh shop farther around in the complex.

The Brighton name includes belts, wallets, jewelry, luggage, handbags, perfume and shoes. The travel items include clothing and jackets that pack easily and even shoes that snap apart to replace on style of “top” with another.

Originally from Seattle, the Bennetts came to North Idaho 10 years ago. Hoping to open next week, Accessories by Gosh will have five employees and hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and opening at 11 Sundays with hours extending in the summer. Phone 765-1179.

This week’s tidbits

“The remodeled Cricket’s Downtown Bar & Grill reopened this week with a new name (the former oyster tag is gone), new bar and new outdoor deck. The restaurant will have a Cinco de Mayo celebration tonight and will have an open jam night for local musicians on Wednesdays.

“The Art Walk in downtown Coeur d’Alene on the first Friday evening each month is a great success and an opportune time to meet friends and new folks. It’s too bad more of the established downtown businesses aren’t open then.
