Hints from Heloise
Dear Readers: The air in your home can be polluted even more than outdoors, due to animal dander, house dust, dust mites, molds, mildew, pollen, bacteria, insects and so much more. Yuck and double yuck. Here are some hints to help you reduce and eliminate many indoor pollutants:
•Control the humidity level by trying to keep it between 30 percent to 50 percent. Dampness serves as a breeding ground for mold, mildew, insects and bacteria. Also, don’t forget to ventilate the attic and crawl space.
•Dust and clean your home often to cut down on dust, animal dander and pollen. Pay close attention to carpets, draperies and bedding, and don’t forget to vacuum your floors frequently.
•Have the air-conditioning and heating systems professionally checked at least once a year, and clean or change filters monthly or as often as recommended.
•Use the exhaust fans in kitchens and bathrooms that vent to the outside. – Heloise
