Indians 2, Twins 0: At Cleveland, Fausto Carmona outpitched Johan Santana again, and Victor Martinez and Ryan Garko homered in a three-pitch span off Minnesota’s ace in the seventh inning, leading the Indians to a win over the Twins. Carmona allowed four hits for his first career shutout and complete game.

Red Sox 2-4, Tigers 1-2: At Boston, Eric Hinske slammed his face on the ground on a spectacular, run-saving catch then smacked the ball over the fence for a go-ahead homer to help the Red Sox take game two of a day-night doubleheader over Detroit. In the opener, Julian Tavarez allowed one run, four singles and four walks in seven innings for Boston. Manny Ramirez hit RBI number 1,541 to pass Willie Stargell for 38th of the all-time list.

White Sox 4, Yankees 1: At Chicago, Jon Garland limited New York to a run and six hits over seven innings and Jermaine Dye homered and had four RBIs as the White Sox beat the Yankees. Garland walked four and struck out two.

Royals 7, Athletics 4: At Oakland, Calif., Scott Elarton got his first victory since last July, slumping Mike Sweeney had a pair of hits and Kansas City defeated Oakland. Elarton gave up four runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Devil Rays 8, Rangers 6 (10): At Kissimmee, Fla., Delmon Young’s second homer of the night, a two-run shot in the 10th inning, helped Tampa Bay beat Texas at Disney World. The Rangers were 2 for 18 with runners in scoring position.
