North Idaho projects getting Community Foundation grants
The Idaho Community Foundation has announced $271,730 in grants for 114 nonprofit organizations or projects in 10 counties in North Idaho.
Grants range in size from $500 for the Idaho Native Plant Society chapter in Sandpoint to more than $11,000 for the Post Falls School District for five science programs.
The grants included:
Benewah County: $865 to the Greater Benewah County Humane Society for an animal scale; $5,000 to St. Maries School District for equipment for special education classrooms.
Bonner County: $2,000 to the Blanchard Area Seniors for commercial kitchen equipment for a new senior/community center; $2,000 to the Priest Lake Search and Rescue for equipment for the new mobile command post trailer.
Boundary County: $1,500 to South Boundary Fire District to buy chairs and tables for the new training center and community room; $2,500 to Boundary County to provide a shaded, handicap-accessible meeting area at the fairgrounds.
Kootenai County: $2,000 to the Caring Foundation for Children to provide dental care for uninsured or underinsured children; $1,000 to Project Safe Place for general operating expenses.
Latah County: $1,000 to Lorang Farm Restoration for displays; $3,000 to the Palouse Discovery Science Center for science equipment, supplies and publicity for programming activities.
Shoshone County: $4,000 to the Shoshone County Community Health Clinic to provide medications for patients; $1,500 to the Idaho Department of Parks & Recreation to replace the audio walking tour at Old Mission State Park.
The J. A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation Education Fund and the Herbert D. McAvoy Fund in the Idaho Community Foundation provided more than $161,000 for educational opportunities in North Idaho. Another $50,000 was anonymously donated by a North Idaho family.
The Idaho Community Foundation is a statewide nonprofit organization of more than 370 individual funds pooled together. Total assets are approaching $70 million.
