Holy Trinity Greek anniversary celebrations

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington, will host several events this week in preparation for its 60th anniversary celebration next Saturday:

“The church will host a Saturday of the Souls Divine Liturgy and memorial service today at 9:30 a.m. The service will be followed by memorial services at noon at Riverside Memorial Park, 211 N. Government Way, and at 1 p.m. at Pines Cemetery, 1402 S. Pines Road in Spokane Valley.

“A Kneeling Vespers service with members of other area Orthodox churches will take place Sunday at 5 p.m. at the church. The guest speaker is the Rev. Bill Caldaroni, who will speak on Pentecost Missions. A parish feast day dinner will follow the service at no charge. Donations will be accepted for the Orthodox Christian Mission Center’s “Support a Mission Priest” program.

“The Rev. Anthony Salzman, a Byzantine iconographer, will present a slide show and lecture on the theology, history and technique of icon painting at 7 p.m. Monday. The slides will show churches in Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt, Jerusalem, Yugoslavia and Russia. Salzman is from St. Philothea Greek Orthodox Church in Athens, Ga. Admission is free, and all are welcome.

“The main anniversary celebration begins June 2 with Vespers at 5 p.m. followed by a social hour at 5:30. Dinner will be served at 6:30 and dancing will begin at 8. The cost is $40 for adults and $20 for children for the dinner and dance, or $25 for adults and $15 for children for the dance only. Tickets will only be sold in advance. Peace concert

Devotional singer Snatam Kaur will perform in concert at the Lake City Playhouse in Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The performance is part of her “Celebrate Peace World Tour” and will feature music from her new album, “Anand.” Kaur, whose father was a manager of the Grateful Dead, combines Western sounds with classical Indian styles.

Rummage sale

Cheney Emmanuel Lutheran Church will host a children’s rummage sale next Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to raise money for its community Vacation Bible School session, scheduled July 9-13. The sale will include clothing, books, toys, furniture and other children’s items.
