Mathieu Schneider scored the only goal in a shootout in his Anaheim debut, lifting the Ducks to a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night in Anaheim, Calif.

Schneider, a defenseman signed as a free agent during the off-season, beat Blue Jackets goalie Fredrik Norrena with a shot between the pads, the puck trickling across the goal line as the goalie frantically reached back to try to stop it.

Red Wings 4, Flames 1: At Calgary, Alberta, Henrik Zetterberg scored twice to help Detroit run its win streak to seven with a victory over the Flames.

Zetterberg has 12 goals and at least one point in all 14 of Detroit’s games this season.

Canadiens 5, Flyers 2: At Montreal, Saku Koivu had a goal and an assist and Cristobal Huet stopped 16 shots as Montreal remained undefeated through regulation in six games (5-0-1).

Senators 6, Thrashers 4: At Ottawa, Randy Robitaille scored his first two goals for the Senators before leaving with an injury, and Ottawa (10-1-0) almost blew it without him. The Senators scored four more times, but the Thrashers rallied with four consecutive goals in the third period, including three by Ilya Kovalchuk.

Rangers 2, Capitals 0: At New York, Chris Drury scored his first goal since opening night, and Henrik Lundqvist earned another shutout as the Rangers went on their first winning streak of the season.

Islanders 4, Lightning 0: At Uniondale, N.Y., Rick DiPietro turned aside 28 shots for his 12th career shutout and added an assist. Bill Guerin, Josef Vasicek, Ruslan Fedotenko and Trent Hunter scored for the Islanders, who beat Tampa Bay for the first time in nine contests (0-5-3), dating back to a 3-0 win at home on March 21, 2004.

Blues 3, Wild 2: At St. Paul, Minn., Jay McKee scored the winning goal in the third period and St. Louis beat the Wild. Keith Tkachuk and Martin Rucinsky also scored for the Blues, who have yet to lose back-to-back games this season. Manny Legace stopped 23 shots for his sixth win in eight starts.

Bruins 4, Sabres 3: At Boston, Marco Sturm scored in overtime and added an assist for Boston.

Sturm beat Ryan Miller and scored with 52.3 seconds remaining after he redirected a shot from Aaron Ward, who had gently flipped the puck toward the net.

Avalanche 3, Penguins 2: At Denver, John-Michael Liles scored one of Colorado’s three third-period goals to offset Sidney Crosby’s two scores and the Avalanche beat Pittsburgh.

Predators 3, Canucks 0: At Vancouver, B.C., David Legwand and Martin Erat scored on Nashville’s first two shots and Dan Ellis made 29 saves, lifting the Predators to their first road win of the season.

Tocchet’s ban extended

Rick Tocchet still has time to serve before he will be allowed back behind an NHL bench.

Tocchet, already on two years’ probation after he pleaded guilty to promoting gambling and conspiracy to promote gambling, won’t be able to resume his position as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Coyotes until next Feb. 7, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said.
