Josten chosen all-WCC again

George Josten became the first Gonzaga University men’s soccer player to become a three-time All-West Coast Conference first-team selection.

Josten was one of seven Bulldogs honored in the vote of league coaches. Senior keeper Vito Higgins, senior defenders Daniel Scott and Austin Washington were second-team picks; senior midfielder John Palladino and sophomore midfielder Tye Perdido were given honorable mention, and forward/midfielder Philippe Garre was named to the All-Freshman team.

Joston, a senior forward, leads the Bulldogs in goals (5), assists (7) and points (17). Gonzaga plays at Southern Methodist University in the first round of the NCAA tournament Saturday.

Women’s basketball

The Idaho Vandals have signed recruits: Kimberly Crandell, a 5-11 post from Palo Cedro, Calif., Charmaine Barlow, a 5-10 wing from Seattle, and Jessica Graham, a 6-0 post from Ripon, Calif.

As a junior last season for Liberty Christian High School, Crandell averaged 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 blocks per game.

Charmaine Barlow was a top defender on last season’s State 3A runner-up team at Chief Sealth HS.

Graham averaged 15.5 points and 8.0 rebounds as a junior at Ripon HS. She is now at Modesto Christian.

“Four North Idaho College players scored in double figures as the Cardinals defeated visiting Casper College 70-56 Wednesday in a non-conference game.

Danikan Lawson scored 21 points, Ula Tauala 15, Cassie Pilkinton 12 (plus 10 rebounds) and Marielle McKean 10.

Volleyball

Washington State lost 30-24, 34-32, 30-22 to the 13th-ranked Oregon Ducks (20-9, 9-8) in Pullman. The Cougars (9-22, 0-17) were led by the combined 27 kills from Brittany Johnson and Tara West.

“Three Gonzaga seniors were given honorable mention on the All-WCC women’s squad: Heather Dunn, Becky Jones and Briawna Mueller.
