Area Roundup: Larsen leads Vandals in win over Eagles
Haley Larsen had a team-high 11 kills and added 10 digs and three aces to lead the University of Idaho volleyball team to a 30-26, 30-26, 30-22 win over Eastern Washington University in a non-conference match in Moscow, Idaho.
Kelsey Yonker added 20 digs and Kelsey James dished out 30 assists for the Vandals.
Chenoa Coviare had a match-high 12 kills and Ashley Hamilton handed out 20 assists to lead the Eagles.
With the win, Idaho improves to 7-9 on the season while Eastern Washington falls to 6-10.
Women’s golf
Senior Kelly Nakashima and sophomores Amanda Jacobs and Beth Stonecypher all tied for 14th with 6-over 222s as Idaho took third at the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational at the Omni Interlocken Resort Golf Club in Broomfield, Colo.
The Vandals shot a team total of 890, finishing one stroke behind runner-up Oklahoma and five behind host and first-place Colorado.
Eastern Washington’s Chloe Nelson tied for third with a three-day total of 219 and the Eagles tied for 11th.
Gonzaga finished 18th out of 20 teams. The Bulldogs top finisher was Lacey Jo Manwaring, who tied for 49th with a 233.
Men’s golf
Idaho’s Ben Weyland tied for third with a two-day even-par 144, leading Idaho to a ninth-place finish at the rain-shortened Husky Invitational at Olympic Course in Bremerton, Wash.
The Vandals’ Russell Grove tied for 20th with a 6-over 150.
Washington State finished 13th out of 13 teams. Austin Hurt earned a tie for 31st with an 8-over 152 to lead the Cougars.
Oregon State was the champion with a team total of 9-over 585 and host Washington took second with a 16-over 592.
Cross country
Idaho’s men’s and women’s teams are ranked in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association West Region polls.
The women are ranked 10th after winning the Charles Bowles Invitational over the weekend, while the men moved from 14th to 13th after taking third at the same event.
Football
The Eastern Washington University athletic ticket office has about 25 tickets available for Saturday’s game at Montana.
