The main difference: to get your name removed for five full years, the Web request also requires a confirmation mail — not e-mail — to be sent to the opt-out agency working with the four credit reporting companies. The request, with your signature, will complete the request.
This effort should also cut the number of e-mail invitations you receive — though one must be aware that some of those e-mail messages are mass-spammed and won’t be stopped this way.
