Cabela’s plans Montana store
Outdoors retailer Cabela’s officially announced this week that it plans to start construction on its first Montana store.
Cabela’s will build an 80,000-square-foot store off Interstate 90. The store is expected to open by early next summer, the Billings Gazette reported on its Web site.
“Montana is a mecca for sportsmen and women from around the country, and Cabela’s is proud to become part of the state’s great outdoor tradition,” President and chief executive Dennis Highby said.
The store will anchor a retail shopping center being developed by Foursquare Properties of Carlsbad, Calif., which also is developing centers anchored by Cabela’s in Post Falls and Rapid City, S.D. The Post Falls store is due to open Nov. 9.
The Billings store will include a replica of a mountain with mounted trophy animals displayed in native habitats, a freshwater aquarium with native fish, a gun library and an atrium.
Cabela’s, based in Sidney, Neb., also will run a general store, a gift shop and a fly fishing shop at its Billings location.
Cabela’s sells fishing, hunting and camping gear in retail stores and through a catalog and its Web site. The company started in 1961, selling fishing flies by mail order.
