Doba should step aside

The Spokesman-Review

I have never been too excited over any top coach or manager in sports. I have always maintained it is the full staff that leads to winning and success for any team.

I have seen a steady decline in the Cougars’ program the last three years. While they have outstanding athletes on both sides of the ball, there are too few. Many of the others seem to be in the wrong division of college football (poor recruiting).

It is time for Bill Doba to step back. The Cougars put together a great team of coaches over the past decade. Many were strongly dedicated to WSU and at the same time deserved a promotion for their dedication. Doba deserved his chance based on his success as defensive coordinator. However, he has proven he cannot fulfill the role as head coach.

In the meantime, several of the dedicated assistants are moving on for their opportunity to prove their abilities. It is noble and wonderful to reward Doba for his dedication, especially due to the unfortunate circumstances in his personal life. WSU can no longer afford this steady decline in its program and continue to lose so many dedicated and loyal assistants.

Give Doba a permanent position with the team and allow other younger assistants to step up and prove their abilities.

I nominate the Crimson-Blooded Mike Levenseller.
