Hints from Heloise
Dear Heloise: Although I’m a coffee person, I still keep a teakettle full of water on the range. After I pull a pan off of the stove, I cover the hot burner with the teakettle, which protects myself (and others) from potentially nasty burns. – Alan Palmer, Maple Grove, Minn.
Dear Heloise: We always read the original Heloise, and thanks to you we are still enjoying your Hints From Heloise.
I have a hint for you: Make cornbread by whatever recipe suits you, then bake it in a Belgian waffle maker. I needed some cornbread for a recipe, and it occurred to me that I could probably do it without heating up the kitchen. After making the cornbread in the waffle maker, I brush it with melted butter or olive oil. It makes it nice and crispy, just like it had just been taken out of the cast-iron skillet. – Rex Witcher, Dallas
