Prep roundup: Colfax tops Lakeside for title

Kayla Johnson had 14 kills and Jordan Harazim tallied 15 digs to lead Colfax to a 25-16, 27-25, 25-21 win over Lakeside in the championship match of the District 7 1A volleyball tournament on Saturday at Central Valley High School.

The victory earns Colfax the No. 1 seed to regionals.

In other district matches, Kelli Tikker had 19 kills to lead Lakeside past Freeman 25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 25-14 in a battle for the No. 2 seed to regionals. Carley Heinen totaled 10 kills and seven blocks for Freeman, which will head to regionals as the No. 3 seed. Earlier, Heinen had 14 kills, eight blocks and three aces to lead Freeman to a 25-23, 25-18, 26-24 victory over Chewelah. Kelsey Schalock led Chewelah with nine kills. Chewelah travels to Caribou Trail League’s Lake Roosevelt for a pigtail game on Tuesday with the No. 4 seed to regionals on the line.

Ashley Warnecke totaled 17 kills and Madison Peterson chipped in 21 digs to power Wilbur-Creston to a 26-24, 25-21, 25-19 victory over Lind-Ritzville in the championship match of the District 7 2B tournament at St. George’s School. Wilbur-Creston heads to regionals as the No. 1 seed, while Lind-Ritzville goes as the No. 2 seed.

In other District 7 matches, Mariah Mielke had 30 assists and 12 digs to lead Davenport to a 17-25, 13-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-9 victory over Northwest Christian. Davenport earns the district’s No. 3 seed to regionals, while NWC settles for the No. 4 seed. Springdale grabbed the fifth and final seed to regionals with a 26-24, 20-25, 11-25, 25-22, 17-15 win over St. George’s. In earlier matches, Davenport beat Springdale 25-14, 25-13, 25-11; Northwest Christian defeated St. George’s 25-21, 25-23, 25-21; Wilbur-Creston knocked off NWC 25-12, 25-22, 18-25, 25-9 and Lind-Ritzville beat Davenport 19-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-11.

Kaprina Goodwin totaled 15 kills, 11 aces and seven blocks to propel Northport to a 25-15, 27-25, 25-6 victory over Almira/Coulee-Hartline at the District 7 1B tournament at Northwest Christian High School. Jessica Heimbigner had 11 kills and six blocks to lead Odessa to a 25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 25-23 win over Cusick. Northport and Odessa will play for the district championship on Saturday at 3 p.m. at NWC. In earlier matches, Chelsea Triescher had 23 assists and six aces to guide Cusick to a 25-11, 25-12, 25-21 victory over Curlew. Also, Sarah Gloyn notched eight kills to send ACH to a 27-25, 25-21, 25-22 win over Inchelium. ACH and Curlew will open play on Saturday at NWC at 11 a.m., while Cusick and Inchelium will follow at 1 p.m. Both are loser-out matches.

Girls soccer

Delaney Zalud assisted on the first two goals as Mt. Spokane defeated Southridge 3-0 in the 3A regionals at Mt. Spokane.

The Wildcats will play West Valley-Yakima at home for the regional title and the first two state seeds on Wednesday.

“Molly McClure scored a pair of goals, Dani Raczykowski had a goal and an assist and Kellie Zakrzewski added two assists to lead Cheney to a 4-1 victory over West Valley in the Great Northern League division crossover tournament at Central Valley High School. Cheney earns the No. 1 seed to district, while West Valley settles for the second seed. … Also at CV, Cory Druffel netted two goals to lead Pullman to a 2-0 win over Riverside in a battle for the third and fourth seeds to district. … At Medical Lake, Stevie Harris found the net four times – two on penalty kicks – and added an assist and Candace Leliefeld chipped in two goals and an assist to power Deer Park to a 7-1 romp over Medical Lake and earn the No. 5 seed to district. … Clarkston scored once in each half en route to a 2-0 win over host Colville in a loser-out contest for the sixth seed.

Kasey Rubosky and Katie Baran each had a goal and an assist in the first half to spark Lakeside to a 2-1 victory over Brewster in a 1A regional second-round match in Brewster. Lakeside advances to state and will play for seeding on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Wenatchee against an opponent to be determined.

Football

The first-round pairings of state preliminary games between the Greater Spokane League and the Columbia Basin League were released.

In 4A play on Saturday, GSL No. 1 seed Ferris will play CBL No. 3 Moses Lake at Albi Stadium at 1 p.m. GSL No. 2 Lewis and Clark will travel to CBL No. 2 Richland with kickoff set for 1 or 4 p.m. GSL No. 3 Mead or Central Valley (pending Tuesday night’s tiebreaker) will travel to CBL No. 1 Wenatchee for a 1 p.m. game.

In 3A play on Friday, GSL No. 1 East Valley will host CBL No. 3 Southridge at 7 p.m. GSL No. 2 North Central will hit the road to play CBL No. 2 Kennewick at 4 p.m. Also, CBL No. 1 Kamiakin will play CBL No. 4 Eastmont, Hanford or Sunnyside, pending a tiebreaker.

In crossover non-league season-ending games Gonzaga Prep will host Pasco on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. In Friday games, Walla Walla will host University at 7 p.m. and the loser of the tiebreaker between Mead and Central Valley will travel to Yakima to play Eisenhower with the time to be determined. At Albi Stadium on Friday, Mt. Spokane will host CBL No. 5 (either Eastmont, Hanford or Sunnyside) at 5:15 and Shadle Park will host Davis at 8. Rogers will hit the road to play CBL No. 6 (Eastmont, Hanford or Sunnyside) at 8.

Swimming and diving

Selah edged Pullman 306.5-303 to win the team title at the 2A District meet at Central Washington University in Ellensburg. Cheney (275) was third, while Clarkston (213.5) placed sixth.

Cheney had three individual winners and finished first in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Kait Salley won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2 minutes 6.7 seconds. Rachel Edwards finished first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:25.27 and Sarah Moore won the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.22. The Blackhawks edged Pullman 1:50.49 to 1:50.81 in the 200 free relay.

Clarkston’s Chelsey Stanger won the 100 fly n 1:02.7 and tied for first with Selah’s Shelby Bodine in the 50 free with a time of 26.22. Clarkston’s Donelle McKee finished first in diving with a score of 168.85.
