Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Readers: Many of us are trying to do our part to help the environment by using fewer chemicals, recycling when we can and reducing our dependency on plastic and plastic packaging. One area that many people might not consider is beauty products.

Instead of buying expensive eye treatments to perk up tired eyes, go natural by placing sliced, cold cucumbers over your closed eyes. Leave on for five minutes or until the cucumbers are no longer cold. And for a skin moisturizer, mix a little sweet oil (which is odorless and can be found in the pharmacy) or olive oil and some mashed-up ripe banana into a smooth paste and apply to your face. Let it sit for five to 10 minutes. Rinse with cool water.

For a facial scrub, mix 3 parts baking soda and 1 part water to make a paste. Wash your face, then apply the paste and scrub lightly. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. – Heloise
