Nationals 4, Phillies 2: At Philadelphia, Matt Chico pitched six solid innings and Washington got in the Phillies’ way of an East title, winning to leave the division all even.
Brewers 4, Padres 3 (11): At Milwaukee, Tony Gwynn Jr. hit a tying, two-out triple off Trevor Hoffman in the ninth inning, and the Brewers went on to beat San Diego in the 11th. The Padres are assured of at least a tie for the wild-card spot.
Rockies 11, Diamondbacks 1: At Denver, Troy Tulowitzki hit his first career grand slam and Colorado routed Arizona.
Cubs 4, Reds 0: At Cincinnati, Rich Hill allowed only one hit in six innings – a suitable tuneup for the playoffs – and Matt Murton and Ronny Cedeno hit solo homers, leading Chicago to a victory over Cincinnati.
Cardinals 7, Pirates 3: At Pittsburgh, Adam Wainwright recovered from a shaky start to pitch seven sharp innings, leading St. Louis to a victory over the Pirates.
Astros 3, Braves 2: At Houston, Brandon Backe pitched six strong innings and hit a home run as the Astros beat Atlanta.
Dodgers 6, Giants 5 (10): At Los Angeles, Luis Gonzalez singled to left with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning, leading the Dodgers past San Francisco.
