There’s room for all

The Spokesman-Review

A question for Douglas Day (“Cougars’ formula lacking,” Letters April 6): Why the sour grapes about Cougars basketball? Do I detect a Gonzaga fan who is jealous about sharing the headlines?

Of the Cougars’ 12 non-conference opponents, five were in the NCAA tournament, plus five conference opponents made the tournament. This formula led to two 20-point wins in the NCAA, leading to a Sweet 16 appearance.

In contrast, the Gonzaga formula of flying around in their private jet, plus the rigors of the dreaded West Coast Conference, netted it a second straight one-and-done in a first-round loss in the NCAA tournament.

It appears some (not all) Gonzaga fans have become spoiled by success to the point they don’t want to share the spotlight. Cougars fans, I implore you not to act the same way.

Here’s hoping Idaho and Eastern join WSU and Gonzaga in providing some of the best basketball around. There is plenty of room for all.
