Curse jersey sells on eBay

The Boston Red Sox jersey secretly buried under the new Yankee Stadium in an attempt to “curse” the Yankees sold for $175,100 in a charity auction.

The Jimmy Fund, a cancer charity, didn’t reveal the name of the winning bidder after the weeklong eBay auction closed at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

The bid was the highest of 282 for the battered David Ortiz jersey, which the Yankees jackhammered out from under 2 feet of concrete earlier this month.

A Bronx construction worker who is a Red Sox fan placed the jersey in wet concrete, hoping to hex the Yankees.

The Yankees decided to donate the recovered jersey to the official charity of the Red Sox.

Four GU teams make APR list

Gonzaga University had four sports teams represented among the 712 NCAA Division I sports teams honored by the NCAA with public recognition awards for their latest multiyear Academic Progress Rate scores.

Men’s cross country, men’s outdoor track, men’s tennis and women’s golf were the four Bulldogs sports teams recognized.

These 712 teams posted multiyear APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. The teams recognized this year represent 11.4 percent of the 6,272 Division I teams. The list includes 401 women’s teams and 311 men’s or mixed squads. A total of 192 Division I institutions had at least one team on the top APR list.

Washington State’s women’s indoor track team and Eastern’s men’s cross country team made the list.

The Spokane Shock have moved the kickoff time for their May 31 game to 8 p.m. to accommodate KHQ’s live coverage of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals.

Earlier this month, the Shock moved kickoff for the May 17 game to 4 p.m. to reduce traffic congestion during the Lilac Parade.

All other home game times will remain at the usual 5 p.m. kickoff time.
