Friday’s results

Orioles 11, Tigers 2: At Detroit, Melvin Mora finished a double shy of the cycle, driving in four runs to lift Baltimore over Detroit. Mora finished 3 for 4 and has 15 RBIs in his last seven games. The Orioles have scored 66 runs in the last eight games.

Indians 3, Angels 2: At Cleveland, Cliff Lee became the league’s first 17-game winner by pitching his third complete game of the season in a win over Los Angeles. The Angels scored 48 runs in their last six games but could muster just eight hits and two runs against Lee.

Rays 7, Rangers 0: At Arlington, Texas, Matt Garza settled for his second career shutout after making a bid for the first no-hitter in Tampa Bay history. Garza didn’t allow a hit against the slumping Rangers until a debatable call with two outs in the sixth inning, then finished with a two-hitter.

Royals 4, Yankees 3: At New York, Mariano Rivera’s first wild pitch of the season allowed the tiebreaking run to score in the ninth inning, and Jason Giambi flied out with the bases loaded to secure Kansas City’s victory over the fading Yankees.

Athletics 6, White Sox 4: At Oakland, Calif., pinch-hitter Kurt Suzuki hit a game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning and the A’s rallied to beat Chicago. Reliever D.J. Carrasco worked a full count before Suzuki hit his sixth home run of the season over the left-field wall.

Blue Jays at Red Sox, ppd.: At Boston, the game between Toronto and the Red Sox was postponed because of rain, delaying Paul Byrd’s first start with Boston. The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Sept. 13.
