Names to know

BRANDON PETTIGREW, OKLAHOMA STATE TIGHT END

The 6-foot-6, 255-pound Pettigrew will be playing on Sundays next year and would be right now if he had decided to enter the draft after last season’s All-Big 12 first-team year. He caught 35 passes for 540 yards and four touchdowns as a junior, giving him 70 career catches for 978 yards. He’s durable, having started 33 consecutive games, and able to outrun defensive backs, having caught a 54-yard scoring pass last season.

STEVEN AYERS, WSU LEFT TACKLE

Ayers, a redshirt freshman from Bellingham, ascended to the starting position when Vaughn Lesuma went down with a back problem two weeks ago. Ayers, 6-4 and 311 pounds, redshirted last year but caught the new coaching staff’s eye when they came on board. “He’s a very good football player with a tremendous upside,” Wulff said. Ayers has a key assignment today, protecting quarterback Gary Rogers’ back.

JACOB LACEY, OKLAHOMA STATE CORNERBACK

Lacey is special, having started 26 consecutive games. The senior from Garland, Texas, had 63 tackles last season, including a sack and two others for loss. He also had five interceptions, three of them against Texas, returning one 39 yards for a score. Expect Lacey to shadow Brandon Gibson today.
