Comments embarrass

The Spokesman-Review

I was embarrassed for the coach and school district when I read (East Valley football) coach Adam Fisher’s comments on Nov. 23.

What kind of coach throws his kicker under the bus (figuratively speaking)? Capital missed several extra-point chances yet won. His thinly veiled statements using “we” and “our” did little to hide his personal feelings.

Wouldn’t more appropriate comments for the EV coach have included praise for the other team? Rather than denigrate his players, he should have acknowledged his own shortcomings in not trusting them or sticking with his original strategy throughout, as evidenced in his comment that the kicking game changed the strategy and thus played a part in the outcome.

One wonders if he realizes being a role model is to help teach and build 15- to 18-year-olds into future leaders who are responsible, successful adults – not hide behind them.

You win as a team, you lose as a team. Shame on Fisher for inferring anything else.

Hooray, EV for being one of the top teams in the state.
