Warriors win with defense

Visiting Almira/Coulee-Hartline used a pressing defense to outscore Northwest Christian 16-2 in the second period and cruised to a 45-38 triumph over the Crusaders in the Bi-County League opener for both schools.

Sarah Gloyn scored 11 of her game-high 16 points in the decisive second quarter for ACH (4-0), which forced 22 turnovers. NWC (3-2) was paced by Colbi Neal and Bryanna Bailey, who combined for 25 points.

Reardan 50, Odessa 26: Bailey Wiedmer scored 13 points and teammate Ashley Perleberg added 12 in leading the Indians (2-1) past the visiting Tigers (1-4) in the league opener for both schools.

District 9 North

Garfield-Palouse 62, Rosalia 23: Tianna Woltering finished with a game-high 19 points and also pulled down 10 rebounds in leading the Vikings (5-1, 2-0) to a win over the visiting Spartans (2-3, 0-2).

Elisha Lopez added 16 points and nine assists for the winners. Meaghan Reddish led Rosalia with nine points.

Inland Empire League

Post Falls 45, Lewiston 42: Katelyn Loper finished with 19 points and Jordan Schoening added 12 for Post Falls (8-2, 4-1) as the visiting Trojans slipped past the Bengals (6-3, 2-2), who got 15 points from Kiki Edwards, and stayed atop the IEL standings.

North Star League

Mullan 22, Kootenai 16: Britany Walsh scored six points and pulled down 19 rebounds as the Tigers (2-9, 1-3) defeated the visiting Warriors (0-6, 0-1), which scored only three first-half points.

Nicole Axtman matched Walsh’s points output for Mullan and also added seven rebounds and six steals.

Lakeside (Plummer) 49, Clark Fork 34: Rian Miller scored 11 points and Hannah Donnerberg added 10 as the visiting Knights (6-1, 3-0) rolled past the Wampus Cats (1-5, 1-1).

Panorama League

Cusick 67, Northport 39: Ashley Keogh scored 14 points to pace a balanced Cusick scoring attack as the Panthers (4-0, 2-0) raced past the visiting Mustangs (0-4, 0-2).

Lydia Treischel finished with 12 points and Holly Edwards added 10 for the winners, while Shyanne Wilson paced Northport’s offense with 14 points.

Columbia 52, Wellpinit 20: Julie Ann Larrew tossed in 12 points to lead a trio of double-figure scorers for the visiting Lions (3-0), who outscored Wellpinit 22-0 in the final quarter and cruised to an easy win in the conference opener for both teams.

Mackenzie Parrow finished with 11 points for Columbia, which also got 10 points from Krista Colvin. Wellpinit (0-2) was paced by Lauren Flett’s 11 points.

Curlew 51, Republic 42: Larissa Miller and Chanel Somday each scored 15 points in leading the Cougars (4-1) past the visiting and turnover-plagued Tigers (1-5), who were paced by Ally Lust’s 13 points.

Inchelium 54, St. Michael’s 51: Serena Condon finished with 21 points, eight steals, five rebounds and three assists as the Hornets (3-1) edged the visiting Warriors (0-3).

Jordan Signor added 18 points for the winners, while St. Michael’s got a game-high 23 points from Katie Drass in a losing cause.

Non-league

Lake City 80, Cheney 45: Sophomore Sydney Butler canned 5 of 6 3-point attempts and finished with a game-high 34 points in leading the visiting Timberwolves (6-2) to a lopsided win over the Blackhawks (1-3), who were paced by freshman Allie Brown’s 11 points.

Butler also had six steal and six assists for Lake City, while teammate Katie Baker had a 20-point, 13-rebound double-double.

Freeman 53, Medical Lake 25: MacKenzie Taylor pumped in a game-high 17 points in leading the visiting Scotties (6-0) past cold-shooting Medical Lake (2-1), which suffered its first loss despite getting 10 points from Gabrielle Daily.

Liberty 82, Wilbur-Creston 16: Teara Carnmesser poured in 16 points to lead a balanced Liberty scoring attack and the Lancers (3-0) who also got 12 points and eight rebounds from Tori Fredericks, went on to topple the visiting Wildcats (0-4).

Colfax 62, Sprague-Harrington 17: Kayla Johnson’s 25 points and Colfax’s dominance on the boards led to the Bulldogs’ rout of the visiting Falcons.

Johnson, a junior, also added six steals for Colfax (2-0), which got 13 rebounds from Alex Berdal.

Kettle Falls 54, Selkirk 45: Chelsea Brisbois scored 21 points and yanked down 12 rebounds to lead the visiting Bulldogs (3-1) past the Rangers (3-4), who got a game-high 23 points from Maria Villegas.

Nikka Yankus grabbed nine rebounds for the winners.

West Valley 50, Lakeside 30: Shaniqua Nilles pumped in 17 points to go along with her nine rebounds and six steals as the visiting Eagles (3-0) rolled past cold-shooting Lakeside (4-2) at Nine Mile Falls.

Hannah Love finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds for WV, while Lakeside, which shot only 24 percent from the field, was paced by Leslie Stillar’s nine points.

Newport 48, Riverside 41: Pamela Bell made 10 of 16 basket tries and finished with a game-high 23 points as the Grizzlies (4-3) outlasted the host Rams (0-4), who got nine points from Rheanna Kaley.
