Parks and Rec has programs to entertain stir-crazy kids
The Spokane Valley Parks and Recreation Department has something for homebound parents and preschoolers who may be starting to get on each other’s nerves.
Several things, actually:
•The Kurious Kids Preschool, which began Jan. 7 and runs through March 28. The preschool at the Western Dance Hall in Sullivan Park, for children 3 to 5 years old, has a weekly signup. Fees are $27 a week for twice-weekly sessions, $39 for three sessions a week, or $145 a month.
•Fabulously Fun Fitness for Kids, a Jan. 15 to Feb. 19 exercise class for children 3 to 6 years old, from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays at the CenterPlace community center, 2426 N. Discovery Place. Kids may join late at a prorated price. Bring a sibling and get a 20 percent discount.
•Mom and Me Valentine’s Day Party, a Feb. 12 craft-making event for 3- to 5-year-old children and their parents, from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. at CenterPlace. The fee is $12.
•Parents Night Out, an opportunity for parents to have a romantic evening, from 6 to 10:30 p.m., while the parks staff babysits children from 6 to 11 years old. The cost is $25 for the first child, and $18 for each additional one.
•Lego Crazy Action Contraptions, a camp for students 7 to 9 years old during the Presidents Day holiday and the East Valley School District winter break. Kids will build “Lego engineering projects that really work,” on Feb. 18 and 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at CenterPlace. The fee is $35 for one day, $65 for both.
•Lego Simple Motorized Machines, a two-day camp at CenterPlace for children 8 to 10 years old, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 20 and 21. Projects may include a race car, a merry-go-round, a piano keyboard, windshield wipers or a conveyor belt. The fee is $65.
