Parental guidance
During the Iowa caucuses, some of the campaigns were offering free child care to encourage parents to attend. Would you leave your child with a stranger?
“Absolutely not! While it is a nice offer, I would never leave my son with ANY stranger.
“You can never be too careful in this day and age. Child predators are hiding and walking among us.
“I do a lot of political things and either take my son with me – he is 11 – or ask a friend or relative. Children also need to see the process and get involved. My son actually went doorbelling with our current mayor and was amazed at the people he met.” – Posted by Shannon Sullivan
“Never.
“I’m always shocked when strangers ask me to watch their children while they run out of sight for some period of time. How do they know I’m any better than the people from whom I’m supposed to be shielding the children?” – Posted by Laurie Rogers
“When my daughter was a baby I read, ‘Never leave your child where you wouldn’t leave a million dollars.’ I think that’s really good advice and, if you think about it, you could whittle it down to fifty dollars. Most people wouldn’t leave money with a stranger and yet many will leave their kids.
“As for the voting, we talk about the fact that people in other countries are dying for the right to vote and for the right to an education while so many of us are throwing that away. Kids do need to see the process and learn that it’s not only a right, but a responsibility.” – Posted by Jennine
