Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Rick DiPietro had 37 saves and Bill Guerin scored two goals to lead the New York Islanders to a 3-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night in Newark, N.J., their fifth win in as many games this season against them.

Mike Sillinger also scored for New York, which has won four of the five meetings in regulation.

Travis Zajak scored for New Jersey, which had a three-game winning streak snapped in losing for only the seventh time in 26 games.

DiPietro was spectacular in the third period, stopping 15 of 16 shots, including one in close by Dainius Zubrus in the final 90 seconds.

Guerin iced it with an empty-net goal seconds later, his ninth in 13 games.

Flames 3, Wild 2 (SO): At St. Paul, Minn., Jarome Iginla shrugged off a slow night to score the winning goal in the shootout, lifting Calgary to a victory over Minnesota.

Iginla began the night with 41 points in 38 career games against Minnesota.

Blackhawks 6, Blues 1: At Chicago, rookie Patrick Kane had two goals and an assist, and Patrick Lalime made 32 saves and the Blackhawks breezed to a victory over St. Louis.

Dustin Byfluglien had a goal and two assists for Chicago, which won its second straight following an eight-game losing streak.

Rangers 2, Sabres 1: At New York, Petr Prucha and Brandon Dubinsky each had a goal and an assist to lift the Rangers to a victory over Buffalo that stretched the Sabres’ losing streak to 10 games.

Henrik Lundqvist made 23 saves for his 20th win of the season for New York.

Flyers 5, Panthers 3: At Philadelphia, Daniel Briere scored twice and Kimmo Timonen had a goal and two assists as the Flyers held off Florida, denying Panthers coach Jacques Martin his 500th win.

Martin, looking to become the 10th coach in NHL history to win 500 games, won No. 499 on Jan. 10 at Atlanta, but Florida has lost three straight since.
