This week

Fourteen-year-old Callie Smidt, of Coeur d’Alene, recently earned the Young Womanhood Recognition Award from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Smidt received the award after completing an extensive Personal Progress program which requires setting goals and planning and completing worthwhile projects before the age of 18.

Her projects included voluntarily serving dinner at a community homeless shelter, re-decorating her room and refinishing furniture, cooking for her family for two weeks and shopping for a meal, and sewing her own period clothing for the Mormon Stake Pioneer Trek Re-enactment at Martin’s Cove in Wyoming.

Smidt is an honor student at Lakes Middle School and attends the Coeur d’Alene First Ward of the LDS Church. She is the daughter of Tim and Janet Smidt.
