Mitchell earns shame

“Are you now or have you ever been a steroid user?” “Of your personal knowledge, who else is a steroid user?”

Doesn’t anyone remember the distaste with which we now look at similar questions once asked by the McCarthy Commission? Remember the disgust with which we came to view those who named names and the eventual adulation heaped upon those who chose jail over ratting on friends? Shame on George Mitchell for using the threat of increased jail time to elicit confessions. (MLB commissioner) Bud Selig will rue the day he decided to revisit this process.
