Report: Affeldt to join Reds
Left-hander Jeremy Affeldt, who pitched three scoreless innings during the 2007 World Series, has reached a preliminary agreement on a one-year contract with the Cincinnati Reds, foxsports.com reported Saturday.
Affeldt, 28, drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 1997 after graduating from Northwest Christian High, reached a free-agent deal for $3 million, pending a physical, according to major league sources quoted by the Web site.
Affeldt did not return a call made to him by The Spokesman-Review.
The reported deal also includes performance bonuses.
Affeldt earned $1.25 million last season for the National League champion Colorado Rockies. Used exclusively as a reliever, he went 4-3 with a 3.51 ERA in 59 innings.
He is 25-27 in 286 career appearances, including 42 starts.
The Reds will reportedly give Affeldt a chance to make their starting rotation.
