James’ late basket carries Cavs past Blazers
LeBron James’ reverse layup with less than a second left Wednesday night gave Cleveland an 84-83 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, the Cavaliers’ fifth straight win on the road.
Portland led by as many as 14 points in the second half, but the Cavaliers closed in as time ran down. James, who had 37 points and 14 rebounds, hit three consecutive 3-pointers to tie it 81 with 2:26 left.
Travis Outlaw’s jumper put the Blazers back in front, and they still held a narrow lead when Drew Gooden missed 1 of 2 free throws.
Steve Blake missed a 3-pointer with 55 seconds left, but Portland stopped Cleveland on the other end.
Brandon Roy ran down the clock, then missed a pressured 3-pointer with 5.9 seconds remaining. James’ layup with 0.9 seconds left gave Cleveland its only lead of the half and the victory.
Warriors 116, Hornets 103: Stephen Jackson scored 26 points, and Golden State beat host New Orleans to snap the Hornets’ nine-game winning streak.
Timberwolves 83, Bulls 67: Al Jefferson had 26 points and 20 rebounds and Ryan Gomes added 25 and 10 boards to help Minnesota beat Chicago in Minneapolis.
Raptors 122, Wizards 83: Andrea Bargnani scored 19 points, Chris Bosh had 16 and Toronto routed visiting Washington.
76ers 112, Bucks 69: Andre Iguodala scored 18 points and Philadelphia crushed visiting Milwaukee for the 76ers’ largest win in 12 seasons at the Wachovia Center.
Nuggets 106, Grizzlies 102: Allen Iverson had 32 points and 12 assists and Denver used a late run to beat host Memphis.
Rudy Gay led Memphis with 30 points and 10 rebounds.
Jazz 100, Knicks 89: Deron Williams had 22 points and 12 assists as Utah extended its winning streak to six games with a victory over New York in Salt Lake City.
Magic 107, Heat 91: Hedo Turkoglu had 27 points and 12 rebounds, Rashard Lewis scored 19 and Orlando used a 12-0 fourth-quarter run to defeat visiting Miami, which was playing without Dwyane Wade (flu), Shaquille O’Neal (hip) and Udonis Haslem (ankle).
Kings 105, Bobcats 91: Brad Miller had 22 points and a career-high 21 rebounds to lead Sacramento to a victory over Charlotte at Sacramento, Calif.
The Bobcats fell to 4-14 on the road.
Clippers 95, Hawks 88: Al Thornton hit 13 of 20 shots from the floor and finished with a game-high 33 points to power Los Angeles to a victory over visiting Atlanta.
Josh Smith’s 21 points led Atlanta.
