RiverHawks defeat Apple Sox

The Spokesman-Review

Kyle Krustangel’s two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the third inning gave the Spokane RiverHawks a 3-1 West Coast Collegiate Baseball League victory over the Wenatchee Apple Sox Sunday at Gonzaga University’s Patterson Baseball Complex.

Spokane starter Kyle Lawton got only one out in the first inning before being replaced by Matt Renner.

Lawton walked the first two batters he faced and hit the next one before Sean Montplaisir got an RBI ground out to second base, giving the Apple Sox a 1-0 lead. When Lawton walked the next batter to reload the bases, his night was over.

Renner came in and retired two straight to end the inning.

The RiverHawks answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning, scoring on Logan Boyd’s sacrifice fly to tie the score.

Krustangel then hit the game-winner in the third inning.

Renner pitched 42/3 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and two walks with four strikeouts to earn the victory. Three more relievers pitched four more scoreless innings to secure the win.
