Dudra to leave Chiefs

Spent 15 years as head scout

Ray Dudra, who spent 15 years as the head scout for the Spokane Chiefs and 18 years overall with the organization, has resigned and is expected to join another Western Hockey League team.

During his tenure, the Chiefs won two Memorial Cups (1991, 2008), two division titles (1996, 2000) and played in four WHL Finals, winning two of them.

“It was the toughest thing in the world to do and one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make, but it was something that I needed to do to move forward,” Dudra said.

“It was 18 years and an unbelievable experience. I am going to miss all the people but this was something that I felt I needed to do.”

Chiefs release schedule

The Chiefs will open defense of their Memorial Cup title with a game in Cranbrook, British Columbia, on Sept. 18 against the Kootenay Ice.

The championship banner will be unveiled at the home opener on Sept. 27 against the Tri-City Americans.

Of their 36 home games, 27 will be weekend dates – nine Friday games, 15 Saturday games and three Sunday games. In addition, there will be eight Wednesday dates and one Tuesday.

For the complete tentative schedule, see Scoreboard on page C4.

Lake access closed

Public access to Silver Lake, a mile east of the town of Medical Lake, is closed July 28-Aug. 22 for construction of new boat launch facilities, including a new concrete boat launch and fishing pier.

Because of the amount of construction material, equipment and activities, it is impossible to safely accommodate public use of the area at this time, according to a Washington Department of Wildlife release.
