Athletics 10, Tigers 2: At Oakland, Calif., Justin Duchscherer allowed three hits over 62/3 innings and the Athletics beat Detroit to complete a three-game sweep. It’s the fifth time this season Oakland has swept a three-game series after having only three three-game sweeps in all of 2007. The Athletics’ fourth straight win left the Tigers a season-high 11 games worse than .500.
Red Sox 5, Rays 1: At Boston, Josh Beckett allowed a run in six strong innings and the Red Sox beat Tampa Bay for their 12th straight win at home. Despite dropping a half-game behind the Red Sox and ending 10 days in first place in the East Division, the Rays are a franchise-high 11 games better than .500.
Twins 7, Orioles 5: At Minneapolis, Joe Mauer homered and drove in three runs, helping Boof Bonser get a win out of the bullpen and leading Minnesota past Baltimore. The Twins trailed 5-2 before rallying to hand Orioles starter Daniel Cabrera his first loss in six starts.
Yankees 5, Blue Jays 1: At New York, Mike Mussina pitched six strong innings, Wilson Betemit homered and the Yankees stopped a three-game slide by beating Toronto. Mussina is tied for the league lead in wins with nine. He struck out a six in earning his 259th career victory.
Indians 15, Rangers 9: At Arlington, Texas, Ryan Garko drove in a career-high six runs, David Dellucci hit a three-run homer and Cleveland held off Texas.
White Sox 6, Royals 4 (15): At Chicago, Paul Konerko hit a two-run homer in the 15th inning to lift the White Sox to a victory over Kansas City. Former Royal Octavio Dotel pitched 22/3 innings of hitless relief to earn the win. Each team used seven pitchers.
