Suns select Porter
Terry Porter will be the Phoenix Suns’ next coach, ending the club’s month-long search for a successor to Mike D’Antoni.
Phoenix general manager Steve Kerr said Saturday he had agreed to terms with Porter, who was an assistant with the Detroit Pistons.
The 45-year-old Porter played in the NBA for 17 seasons and teamed with Kerr in San Antonio.
Porter is expected to sign a three-year deal worth about $7 million.

Merrymaking mars Cup
The Stanley Cup is OK after taking a tumble during the Red Wings’ celebrations in Detroit.
NHL spokeswoman Bernadette Mansur said the Cup got a slight dent Friday after some players took the trophy to a downtown restaurant owned by Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios.
Mansur says the dent was smoothed out, and the trophy was expected to keep making the rounds.
