Pirates 12, Yankees 5: At Pittsburgh, Jose Bautista and Ryan Doumit homered and the Pirates turned back the clock nearly a half-century, beating New York for their first victory against them since the 1960 World Series.

Blue Jays 14, Reds 1: At Toronto, Scott Rolen hit one of the Blue Jays’ three homers, A.J. Burnett pitched eight strong innings and Toronto got the victory over Cincinnati.

Angels 8, Nationals 3: At Washington, Mike Napoli homered to help the Angels to a six-run first inning and Los Angeles took advantage of four errors by the Nationals to earn a victory.

Giants 3, Indians 2: At Cleveland, Jonathan Sanchez won for the fifth time in six starts and Omar Vizquel dropped down a suicide squeeze as San Francisco beat the Indians in the first game between the clubs in Cleveland since the 1954 World Series.

Cardinals 8, Tigers 4: At Detroit, Brian Barton, Skip Schumaker and Brendan Ryan each drove in two runs, leading St. Louis to a win over the Tigers. Starter Braden Looper gave up four runs on three homers in six-plus innings for St. Louis .

Rays 6, Marlins 4: At Miami, Dioner Navarro and Eric Hinske drew bases-loaded walks in the eighth inning, Evan Longoria hit a two-run double in the ninth and Tampa Bay beat Florida.

Red Sox 5, Diamondbacks 4: At Boston, slumping Jason Varitek capped a four-run eighth inning with a go-ahead single and the Red Sox rallied to slip past Arizona.

Astros 4, Rangers 3: At Houston, Lance Berkman had a two-run homer among his two hits to break out of a three-game hitless streak and lead the Astros to a win over Texas. Brian Moehler allowed five hits and one run with five strikeouts for Houston.

Royals 7, Rockies 3: At Kansas City, Mo., Zack Greinke matched a career high with 10 strikeouts and Alex Gordon hit a two-run homer as the Royals beat Colorado for their ninth win in 10 games.

Orioles 7, Cubs 5: At Chicago, Brian Roberts had three hits to help Baltimore make its first visit to Wrigley Field a memorable one, beating the Cubs to end Chicago’s 14-game home winning streak.

White Sox 6, Dodgers 1: At Los Angeles, Mark Buehrle pitched eight solid innings, Jermaine Dye hit a two-run homer and Chicago snapped a nine-game road losing streak with a victory over the Dodgers. L.A.’s Derek Lowe allowed five runs and nine hits over 7 1/3 innings.

Athletics 5, Phillies 2: At Oakland, Calif., Emil Brown hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh to spoil a strong outing by Jamie Moyer, Joe Blanton ended a four-start losing streak and the Athletics beat Philadelphia.

Twins 3, Padres 1: At San Diego, Brendan Harris and Brian Buscher hit solo home runs on consecutive pitches against Trevor Hoffman to lead Minnesota to a victory over the Padres.
