People: From one Boss to another?
Bob Dylan. Yo-Yo Ma. Sheryl Crow. Jay-Z.
These aren’t musical acts in a summer concert series: They’re artists featured on Barack Obama‘s iPod.
Jazz legends Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker are also in the mix.
“I have pretty eclectic tastes,” the Democratic presidential contender tells Rolling Stone magazine.
He appears on the cover of the magazine, which endorsed him for president in March.
Stevie Wonder was his musical hero growing up in the’70s, Obama says. Dylan is another mainstay.
“Actually, one of my favorites during the political season is ‘Maggie’s Farm,’ ” Obama says. “It speaks to me as I listen to some of the political rhetoric.”
In the song, Dylan sings about trying to be himself, “but everybody wants you to be just like them.”
Then there’s Bruce Springsteen. He and Obama haven’t met, though they’ve talked over the phone.
Did Obama address him as “The Boss”?
“You’ve got to,” he says.
His ‘Soulful’ mate
He won the affection of millions on “American Idol,” but this weekend, Ruben Studdard is giving his heart to one woman.
The second-season “Idol” will wed on Saturday in his native Birmingham, Ala.
Studdard has released three albums since his 2003 win, including the platinum CD “Soulful.”
Not up for grabs
A Nashville man has been charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication after he repeatedly harassed Cher at the city’s famed honky-tonk Tootsies Orchid Lounge.
Police said Calvin Hutton Houghland grabbed the singer-actress by the waist as she sat in a roped-off area of the lounge.
They said Cher declined to prosecute, but Houghland asked to be arrested.
Guess Anne got smart
One week after being dumped by actress Anne Hathaway, Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri has been arrested for fraud.
Follieri, 29, charged with conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering, is accused of bilking an equity firm out of millions of dollars by claiming he could buy property from the Catholic Church at huge discounts because he was the Vatican’s chief financial officer.
Umm … just kidding
In a new YouTube video, Kid Rock says he’s so rich he can’t complain if fans illegally download some of his songs.
But he doesn’t stop there. He urges viewers to “level the playing field” by taking whatever they want from wealthy coroporations, including laptops, iPods, Toyotas (“It’s a foreign car company, so who cares?”), gasoline and Tommy Hilfiger clothing.
Rock later confirmed it was, of course, a joke.
