Proszek, RiverHawks shut down Knights

A.J. Proszek allowed two unearned runs over seven innings to lead the Spokane RiverHawks to a 5-2 victory over the Corvallis Knights in West Coast Collegiate Baseball League play on Wednesday night in Corvallis, Ore.

Proszek gave up eight hits, struck out three and didn’t allow a walk.

Kyle Lawton pitched a scoreless eighth and Jake Hiatt duplicated the feat in the ninth to pick up the save for the RiverHawks (5-7).

Cody Reeves scored a pair of runs for Spokane, including what proved to be the game-winner on a bases-loaded walk to Eric Renander in the bottom of the fourth inning.

James McLaughlin took the loss for Corvallis (7-5). He allowed three runs on four hits and three walks in 41/3 innings.

Connor Moore went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored for the RiverHawks.

Hockey

Spokane Chiefs Dustin Tokarski and Jared Spurgeon have been invited to Team Canada’s National Junior Team Development Camp July 26-29.

They will be two of 45 junior-aged players at the camp, the initial phase in the selection of Canada’s National Junior Team that will compete in the World Junior Hockey Championships in December.

Players at the camp, as well as other eligible players, will be evaluated and in late fall a list of players will be invited to the selection camp where 22 will be chosen for the team.

Football

The time for Eastern Washington’s Sept. 27 home game against Idaho State has been changed to 12:37 p.m. from its original evening start.
