People: Britney’s VMA should be DOA
MTV isn’t ruling out giving viewers more Britney Spears at this year’s Video Music Awards.
“Everyone deserves a second or third chance, right?” Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music Group, playfully told The Associated Press during a telephone interview Friday.
Asked if he was just joking, Toffler said, “sorta,” then added: “Who knows?”
Spears’ out-of-it “Gimme More” comeback performance during last year’s MTV Video Music Awards at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas was one of the most-talked televised moments of 2007.
“I’m not sure how we top Britney opening the show,” said Toffler. “We are working on it every minute of every day.”
This year’s MTV Video Music Awards will air live from Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles on Sept. 7.
(MTV and Paramount are corporate cousins within Viacom Inc.)
Toffler said the award show’s performances will occur on the lot’s various sound stages, rooftops and faux city streets.
Paris is turning
Paris Hilton apparently is making good on her promise to become a better person.
The 27-year-old socialite made an “extremely generous” donation toward the construction of a medical building at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, hospital officials said Thursday.
After doing jail time last year for violating probation on alcohol-related reckless driving charges, Hilton told CNN’s Larry King she wanted “to help raise money for kids and for breast cancer and multiple sclerosis.”
Miley’s new direction
Miley Cyrus is showing her sassy side.
“The word ‘hate’ could describe how angry I am,” the 15-year-old “Hannah Montana” star said of her new single, “7 Things” – in which she lists her complaints about a boyfriend – on Ryan Seacrest‘s radio show.
And she told Top of the Pops magazine, “I can’t be quiet and cute for boys. I have to be a bit crazy. I’m too much to handle right now.”
Michael the love bug?
Lindsay Lohan‘s father says he’s looking into a claim by a woman who says she had a daughter by him.
Michael Lohan said in a statement Friday that he had a relationship with another woman while separated from Lindsay’s mom, Dina.
The reputed offspring is now 13.
Short subject
Verne Troyer, who starred as “Mini Me” in two “Austin Powers” movies, is seeking the return of a sex tape he says was stolen.
He’s sued celebrity Web site TMZ and a porn distributor for more than $20 million.
Distributor SugarDVD says it hopes to work out a deal with Troyer to distribute the full, 50-minute version.
