Golf goes beyond Tiger

The Spokesman-Review

I want to comment on a commentary written by Tim Dahlberg (Associated Press) that ran June 19. The headline on the article read: “Golf isn’t worth watching anymore.”

I think this is an insult to all the good players on the tour. If I was one of those tour players, I would want a piece of this writer. I don’t know who Dahlberg thinks he is, but I would bet the ranch that the worst player on tour on his worst day could clean this author’s clock.

I personally like to watch Tiger Woods play because he is amazing, but I also like to watch the other golfers on the tour. In the U.S. Open playoff between Woods and Rocco Mediate, I was rooting for Mediate all the way. Dahlberg needs to remember it is no slouch who can hang in there for 19 holes against a player like Woods. Woods is also 13 years younger than Mediate, who is 45 years old.

I am watching the Travelers Championship as I am writing this and they are still giving Woods lip service instead of the play on the screen. Now that Woods is on the bench for a while, we may be able to enjoy watching some of the other players because Woods will not be getting all the camera time. I think this writer would be well off if he apologized to the tour players, especially the ones he names in his article, and then kept his mouth shut. I am going to send a copy of this article to the PGA.
