Dodgers 1, Angels 0: At Los Angeles, the Dodgers became the fifth team in modern major league history to win a game in which they didn’t get a hit, beating the Angels on the strength of a Blake DeWitt sacrifice fly. (Story, C1)
Yankees 3, Mets 2: At New York, Andy Pettitte outpitched Johan Santana for his sixth straight win, leading the Yankees past the Mets at rainy Shea Stadium. Pettitte allowed only solo homers to Ramon Castro and David Wright in six innings.
Phillies 8, Rangers 6: At Arlington, Texas, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard hit 400-foot homers in the third inning and Philadelphia held on for a victory over the Rangers. Both homers came off Vicente Padilla.
White Sox 6, Cubs 5: At Chicago, Carlos Quentin hit a tiebreaking homer leading off the bottom of the seventh, closer Bobby Jenks escaped a ninth-inning jam and the White Sox made it two straight over the Cubs with the victory.
Blue Jays 9, Braves 5: At Toronto, Vernon Wells had three hits, Rod Barajas hit a solo homer and Joe Inglett had two RBIs, leading the Blue Jays to the win over Tim Hudson and Atlanta.
Brewers 5, Twins 0: At Minneapolis, Manny Parra allowed two hits in seven innings to win his sixth straight start and Milwaukee beat Minnesota to end the Twins’ 10-game winning streak.
Orioles 9, Nationals 1: At Washington, Luke Scott and Ramon Hernandez homered, Adam Jones matched his career high with four hits, and Baltimore cruised past the Nationals in a game interrupted by rain for 63 minutes.
Reds 5, Indians 0: At Cleveland, Johnny Cueto won for the first time in four starts for Cincinnati, combining with four Reds relievers to shut out the Indians. Cueto gave up five hits, walked three and hit two batters over 6 1/3 innings.
Cardinals 5, Royals 1: At Kansas City, Mo., Rick Ankiel hit a two-run home run to help rookie Mitchell Boggs remain unbeaten and St. Louis beat the Royals, snapping Kansas City’s six-game winning streak.
Pirates 4, Rays 3 (13): At Pittsburgh, Jason Bay homered with two outs in the 13th inning to give the Pirates a victory over Tampa Bay. Bay’s 16th home run of the season came off Jason Hammel.
Astros 11, Red Sox 10: At Houston, Lance Berkman atoned for three strikeouts with a two-run double in the eighth inning to lift the Astros to a win over Boston. Mark Loretta added a three-run homer for Houston.
Tigers 7, Rockies 6: At Detroit, Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth and the Tigers overcame Todd Jones’ blown save to beat Colorado.
Giants 1, Athletics 0: At Oakland, Calif., Tim Lincecum stayed even with Justin Duchscherer in a matchup between two likely All-Stars, Randy Winn drove in a run and San Francisco snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Athletics.
