Cardinal rule
Wow, did Candice Wiggins ever wrap up her Pac-10 career in style.
Wiggins produced her own 13-0 run in the first half and finished her phenomenal conference career with 30 points, leading No. 4 Stanford (30-3) past rival and eighth-ranked California (26-6) 56-35 Monday night in San Jose, Calif., for the Pac-10 tournament title and an automatic NCAA tournament berth.
The three-time Pac-10 Player of the Year and fan favorite, Wiggins shot 12 for 23 with five 3-pointers, and had three steals and four rebounds. And the Cardinal (30-3) have to be counting on being rewarded with a No. 1 seed.
Wiggins had 19 points in the first half on 7-of-12 shooting in just 14 minutes.
(1) Connecticut 74, Pittsburgh, 47: At Hartford, Conn., Tina Charles scored 21 points and Renee Montgomery added 15 to help the Huskies (31-1) cruise past the Panthers (22-10) in the Big East tournament semifinals.
Connecticut will face No. 23 Louisville in the championship game tonight. It’s the fourth straight year Connecticut has made the title game.
Top three remain same
Connecticut, North Carolina, and Tennessee remained the top three teams in the Top 25, with conference tournament losses shuffling the rest of the poll.
Texas A&M made the biggest move in the poll to No. 11, after defeating Oklahoma. The Aggies were No. 17 last week.
Notre Dame had the biggest drop in the poll, falling eight spots to No. 17. The Irish lost to St. John’s last Monday, then lost to Pitt in the Big East tournament.
Georgia was the only team to drop out.
