Adam Thorn won the 800- and 1,600-meter runs to lead the Ferris Saxons to a 75-68 win over host Gonzaga Prep in a season-opening Greater Spokane League track and field meet Wednesday. Ferris placed 1-2-3 in the discus, pole vault and 3,200. On the girls’ side, Ferris beat G-Prep 84-66. Katie Davis and Kelly McNamee of Ferris combined to win five events, while Alicia Doohan was the only double winner for the Bullpups, taking the 1,600 and 3,200. … Mead’s boys and girls swept a double-dual meet, beating Mt. Spokane and Shadle Park at Mead. Mead’s boys dominated the field events winning the high jump, discus, javelin and pole vault. Baylee Mires won the 800 and 1,600 for the Mead girls. … Central Valley’s boys and girls beat North Central and Rogers to win a double-dual meet at NC. Jessica Lively was a double winner for the Bears in the 100 and 200. The Bears boys won every field event.

Prep softball

Alisha Meade picked up her third win in three days, striking out four as host Mead (6-1) defeated Lewis and Clark (0-6) 10-4 in Greater Spokane League action. Katie Brown and Alex Cey both hit solo home runs in the first inning for the Panthers. … Stacy Gray went 4 for 5 and scored four runs as Mt. Spokane (4-2) defeated host Rogers (0-6) 30-1. Delaney Zalud had eight strikeouts in the win for the Wildcats. … Central Valley at North Central, East Valley at Shadle Park and Ferris at University were all postponed by weather. Ferris at University is rescheduled for April 14. No makeup was announced on the others.

Prep baseball

The Greater Spokane League matchup of Mead at Central Valley was postponed with no makeup date announced.

Boys soccer

Nick Reilly scored two goals and Andy Jones added a goal and an assist as Mt. Spokane (1-2, 1-2) beat visiting North Central (2-5, 0-5) 4-1 in a GSL matchup. … Mackenzie Olivares scored two goals and had an assist to lead visiting Lewis and Clark (6-1, 3-0) over Rogers (0-6, 0-3) 6-2. … University’s Evan Frobe scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute as the Titans (5-3, 3-1) beat host Mead (6-1, 3-1) 3-2. … Taylor Proctor had two goals and Alec Cutter had two assists to lead Ferris (5-0, 3-0) past visiting Gonzaga Prep (3-4, 2-3) 5-1.

Prep golf

Eric Henderson shot a 2-under-par 68 to help lead Mead (382) to a first-place finish in the first GSL match of the season at Esmeralda Golf Course. Lewis and Clark finished second with a 385. Lauren Howell of Mead shot an even-par 36 for nine holes to lead all girls in scoring. Girls team scores are yet to be determined.

College baseball

Saby Martinez led Yakima Valley with three hits, including two doubles, as the Yaks beat Community Colleges of Spokane 9-4 in NWAACC play at Spokane Falls Community College. Seth Englebert and Bruce Amende each had two hits for the Yaks (8-8). Cory Kreighbaum led the Sasquatch (9-4) with two doubles. The second game was suspended by darkness and will be made up on April 23 at Yakima Valley.

Football

The Spokane Shock received three first-place votes and were picked to finish fifth in the arenafootball2 preseason coaches poll. Tulsa, the defending ArenaCup champion, earned the No. 1 ranking in the poll.
