Reward offered in assault, robbery of elderly couple

Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

A cash reward is being offered for information that solves the assault and robbery of an elderly Spokane Valley couple inside their garage last month.

The 88-year-old husband and wife arrived at their home in the 11100 block of East 22nd Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 24, and had pulled their car into their garage and lowered the drive-through door.

As they opened their cars doors, a man crashed through the man-door and confronted the husband, punching him twice in the face before reaching across him to grab the wife’s purse on the seat of the car.

Unable to get the purse from the driver’s side, the suspect ran to the wife’s door and yanked the handbag away, causing her a minor injury.

The man ran from the garage and neighbors last saw him leaving in what is believed to have been a beige or champagne-colored four-door Volvo that was missing its fuel door/hatch. The car, driven by a female, was last seen going south from 22nd on Skipworth Road.

The robber was described by witnesses as a white male in his mid-20s who was 6-feet to 6-feet-2 tall. He had a husky build, short dark hair and a goatee. The robber wore a plaid shirt or jacket and blue jeans.

The getaway driver was described as a white female with dark shoulder-length hair.

Both of the 88-year-old victims sustained facial injuries, but did not require hospitalization.

Call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line with information about the robbery at 327-5111, or forward the tip via www.crimestoppersinlandnorthwest.org.

Tipsters do not have to give their name to collect the cash fugitive reward, but should provide the operator with a code name or number.
