Spokane Scholars to honor area students

The Spokane Scholars Foundation will present its annual awards banquet April 21 at the Spokane Convention Center at 6 p.m.

The banquet will honor more than 125 local high school seniors who have excelled academically in the areas of English, social studies, mathematics, science, world languages and fine arts.

The students were nominated by their high school principals, counselors and teachers.

Four students in each category will receive a scholarship of either $4,000, $3,000, $2,000 or $1,000.

All honorees will receive the Spokane Scholars Foundation Medal of Achievement.

Tickets to the event are $30, and the foundation is also seeking donations. Donations can be sent to the Spokane Scholars Foundation, P.O. Box 1278, Spokane, WA 99210. Tickets must be purchased by April 14.

Ferris senior raises $800 for Second Harvest Food Bank

Rachel Rossi, a senior at Ferris High School, recently raised $800 for the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Rossi organized a mixer at the Moran Prairie Grange on March 21.

The event was part of Rossi’s senior culminating project. She also researched the topic of hunger in Spokane.
