Matt Bray scored the winning goal in a shootout Wednesday as Ferris (10-2) beat Lewis and Clark 2-1 in a District 8 4A boys soccer opener at Albi Stadium.

Casey Ames scored for the eliminated Tigers (10-5).

Ferris advances to a 5 p.m. Friday match at Albi against Wednesday’s University-Gonzaga Prep winner. No results were reported.

Kevin McNeil had three goals and an assist as Deer Park (7-6) defeated host Chewelah (1-15) 6-2 in a Great Northern League game.

Baseball

Brian Nelson struck out 18 to help St. Maries (12-3, 5-1) beat host Priest River 4-1 in the Intermountain League. Dalton Baker struck out 13 for PR (4-5, 3-3).

Softball

Melissa Kruse, Dani Hawes and Morgan Bach each had two hits as Priest River (1-13, 1-7) beat host St. Maries (9-6, 3-5) 12-7 in the IML.

Girls tennis

No. 1 singles player Britta Stime and No. 1 doubles players Erica Norris and Sara Hair helped Mead (10-0) capture the Greater Spokane League title with a victory over University.

Track

Justin Rose, Devon Almas and Brian Adams were double winners for the Colville boys as they beat Deer Park and Riverside in a Great Northern League double dual at Colville. On the girls’ side, Elizabeth McKinney was a double winner in the 100 meters and 300 hurdles to help Riverside sweep DP and Colville. … Griffon Jones won the shot put and discus to help the Cheney boys defeat Pullman at Cheney. The Cheney girls took 12 of the 18 events to beat Pullman. Anna Albrecht was a double winner for Pullman.

Golf

Connor Moran shot a 3-over-par 75 for a first-place finish to help Lewis and Clark’s boys win a Greater Spokane League meet at the Links Golf Course in Post Falls. … Also at the Links, Brittany Wilcox finished first with a 4-over 76 and her Mead Panthers finished second behind LC in the fifth GSL meet.
