Cougars drub OSU with big start
After giving up four runs in the bottom of the first inning, only to see his team get three of them back in the top of the second, Oregon State starter Tanner Robles must have felt like the game had virtually restarted when he went out for the bottom of the second inning.
The first batter popped up for the first out. That ended the positive feelings for Robles.
The Washington State Cougars plated seven more runs in that bottom of the second inning and went on to an 11-4 Pacific-10 Conference baseball victory over the the two-time defending NCAA champion and 23rd-ranked Beavers Sunday at Bailey-Brayton Field.
Robles proceded to walk the next batter, hit the next two batters with pitches to load the bases, and then issued two more bases-loaded walks before being removed from the game. Reliever Greg Peavey came on and walked the first batter he faced, bringing in another run, before second baseman Micheal Weber cleared the bases with a grand slam to right field to make it 11-3.
Peavey would retire the next two batters to get out of the inning and would throw six more shutout innings of relief, strking out three.
Weber drove in four runs, while Jared Prince, Scott Suttmeier and Greg Lagreid drove in two apiece for the Cougars (24-19, 5-9).

Jason Chatwood’s sacrifice fly with no outs in the bottom of the eighth brought Gonzaga to within 6-5, but Poppert sealed the victory with his ninth-inning heroics.
