Fire rescue crews were unable to find a man Thursday who witnesses say was seen clinging to a phone-pole-like log floating in the Spokane River.

An employee at Brassfinders – which is near the baseball field in Peaceful Valley – called to report the sighting about 1 p.m.

Spokane Fire Department water rescue crews launched a boat near the T.J. Meenach Bridge and went up the river looking for the man, but were unable to locate him, said Lt. Greg Borg.

The rescue effort ended before 2 p.m.
